About Mixed fruit custard

Mixed fruit custard is a dessert made by mixing chopped fresh seasonal fruits in the chilled custard sauce. Traditionally, custard sauce is made with milk, custard powder and egg but this fruit custard recipe is an egg less recipe made with store-bought egg less custard powder.

Custard powder comes in many flavours like butterscotch, Kesar, pista, mango, strawberry, chocolate. you can choose flavours according to your taste and preferences. I have used the simple vanilla custard powder for this recipe.

How to make custard sauce for mixed fruit custard

To make custard sauce first, custard powder is mixed with a small amount of room temperature milk and then added to the boiled milk and cooked till it becomes thick. After that, chilled it in the refrigerator for few hours and finally mix chopped fruit and served chilled. No artificial colour or flavour is added to this recipe.

This dessert is very easy to prepare without any fancy ingredients and a good way of adding fruits to your diet. Also, I used very little sugar in this recipe. As it contains a lot of sweet fruits so if you want you can totally skip the sugar as well.

Ingredients required in the making of mixed fruit custard

Milk – I have used toned milk as it is low in calories and good in nutrition, for more creamy and rich flavour, you can use full-fat milk instead.

Custard powder – I have used market bought Weikfield brand custard powder. Also, I have tried with Brown & Polson brand and that one is equally good. You can use these or other brands which is available in your locality.

Sugar – Regular granulated sugar is used in a very low quantity. You can also use honey but it should be added once the sauce cool down.

Fresh fruits– I have used the fruits that are available in the summer season apple, mango, grapes, pomegranate. You can add other fruits of your choice. But avoid citrus or tangy flavoured fruits they make the custard watery and also change the taste a little bit.

Can we make custard sauce without custard powder?

yes, we can. Custard powder is nothing just flavoured corn flour or corn starch. If you can not find ready-made custard powder use cornflour or arrowroot powder to make custard sauce. To give a flavour add vanilla extract or vanilla bean pods or even fruit puree. You can also add some rabdi, gulkand or fruit jams and make a fusion dessert out of it. To give it a chocolate flavour we can add either cocoa powder or melted cooking chocolate to it.

The addition of some milk powder also provides a rich flavour to it. Fruit custard is a milk-based healthy dessert rich in protein, calcium, minerals and vitamins. It is a good way of incorporating milk and fruits into the diet of little kids who do not like to drink milk. Other dessert recipes.
