Traditional Indian summer drinks are those drinks that are very popular since old times in India. They are very simple in making and delicious in taste. We can easily make them with only simple ingredients present at home. No need for any market bought fancy syrup or concentrated liquid to make these traditional drinks.

Today, I am sharing 2- Easy homemade traditional Indian summer drinks made with milk. They are very popular in villages where no other fancy types of drinks are available. These drinks are easy to make and have a lot of health benefits. 

Making these traditional drinks requires only a few ingredients that are always available at home. They are perfect for hydration and as well as to reduce the effects of summer heat.

Kali mirch aur elaichi ka sharbat (Black pepper and small cardamom milk shake)

A healthy and delicious traditional summer drink most popular in villages. Quick to prepare with only available ingredients at home. You can make it even without using any grinder or blender. Just mix everything together and serve. It not only hydrates you also reduce body heat. Improves digestion and increases metabolism helps to keep you more energetic and calm.

Ingredients required to make Kali mirch aur elaichi ka sharbat 

Black pepper– Used freshly ground whole black pepper for best taste. You can also use black pepper powder if whole black pepper is not available. It is high in antioxidant that helps in reducing any kind of inflammation, improves digestion, and increases metabolism. Black pepper is warm in nature and makes you sweat which gives a cooling sensation to the body.

Small cardamom– Also known as choti eliachi and it makes the drink very flavourful. It helps in lowering blood sugar levels, improves digestion and protects from cancer and other types of chronic disease. Also, it provides a cooling effect on the body and helps in relieving acidity problems.

Khandsari sugar– A healthy white refined sugar alternative, rich in calcium, iron, magnesium, and fibre. It provides a cooling effect to the body and keeps our bones strong and healthy. 

Milk– used toned milk for this recipe, full fat or cow milk can also be used.

Water and crushed ice– to dilute the drink and make it light and more digestible.

 Method of making Kali mirch aur elaichi ka sharbat (Black pepper and small cardamom milkshake

1.First, coarsely grind whole black pepper and small cardamom in a pestle motor.

2.Now transfer these to a blender jar, add chilled milk, khandsari sugar, cold water and ice cubes or crushed ice.

3.Blend them for a few seconds on high speed.

4.Pour into a serving glass, garnish with a little cardamom powder and serve chilled.

5.Delicious healthy Kali mirch aur elaichi ka sharbat is ready. ENJOY!

Gulkand flavoured milkshake or sharbat

Gulkand flavoured milkshake or sharbat is a perfect summer drink as it gives a cooling effect on the body and protects us from the intense summer heat. It also improves energy levels, enhances digestion, cures acidity and provides a clear skin tone and lowers the acne problem.

Ingredients used in making of Gulkand flavoured milkshake or sharbat

Gulkand- Used homemade gulkand but market bought gulkand can be used if homemade is not available. Gulkand can be prepared easily at home using desi Gulab or rose to mix with a healthy sweetener.

Almonds– First soak the almonds for 7-8 hours, take off the skin and then use them in making the drink. It contains a good amount of Vitamin E and various essential minerals that help in lowering blood sugar levels, blood pressure and bad cholesterol in our body. Also improves digestion and boosts energy levels.

Milk-toned milk is used. Milk provides calcium and protein which reduces the chances of osteoporosis and makes the bones strong. Toned milk also helps in maintaining a healthy weight. I have used half milk and half water in making this sharbat. If you want use milk only without any water.

Water and crushed ice– To make reduce the thickness and make it more digestible.

Method of making Gulkand flavoured milkshake or sharbat

1.In a blender jar add 1 tbsp gulkand, soaked and peeled almonds, little milk. blend them once for a few seconds.

2.Now add the rest of the milk, water and ice cubes or crushed ice and blend again for a few seconds. we do not need to add any sweetener to it as gulkand is already sweet.

3.Pour in the serving glasses, garnish with chopped almonds and pista and serve chilled.

4.Gulkand flavoured milkshake is ready to serve, ENJOY!

Serving suggestions

Serve it as a mid-morning drink or as an evening drink. You can drink it any time of the day when you need hydration or before going out in the sun on summer days.
